Generalist vs Specialist

I was challenged last week by a prospective client who asked if I could match the rates of his current recruitment provider on a couple of logistic roles he was looking to fill.

After hearing what the rate was, and kindly declining, I politely asked who his provider was.

As I suspected it was a 360o generalist recruiter. I decided to push for a little more information and found out that they had been working on the positions for 3 months with no success. The roles also turned out to be fairly specialist within the logistics and supply chain sectors, and I was told he was aware he had to pay a premium salary to attract the right candidates.

This confused me slightly, as I could see the prospective client understood the need to pay more for a specialist candidate but couldn’t grasp the concept of having to pay more for a specialist recruiter.

BJD Group specialise in Logistics and Supply Chain recruitment. We don’t deal with Office Secretaries or Cleaners or Fork Lift Drivers. We have a huge database of logistics professionals and a network of sector specialists that have been built up over a 22 year period.

We parted company in an amicable manner and I hope the prospective client finds the candidates he is looking for. If not he knows where to find me.
